Steam column surges skyward from a geyser basin
Why it matters: Water and steam kept bursting from a rocky basin on a volcanic plateau for minutes on end.
The footage shows dense steam and spray rising from a pale, rocky basin ringed by pine forest. The wind bends the column sideways and carries it over the treetops.
The eruption pulses in strength, with vertical jets of water appearing briefly before vanishing into the cloud of steam. Grey mineral deposits around the basin hint at how long the site has been active.
Visitors to geothermal areas must stay on marked boardwalks and paths, as boiling water can lie just beneath the surface.
